Episode 13: A Solstice Celebration, with John McCutcheon and Bill Hutchinson

John McCutcheon

This is my last “live” show of this 2013 season–and of the year! I’d already chosen the theme of the Solstice when I was blessed with an opportunity to interview the legendary songwriter John McCutcheon.  His song “Christmas in the Trenches” is based on the Christmas Truce of World War I in 1914,  when two opposing regiments of Englishmen and Germans during World War I were brought together in truce as they started singing Christmas carols across the field to each other.  It is an amazing testament to the power of music.   I got to hear in his own words how he came to write this beloved ballad.  I also had a conversation with Vietnam vet Bill Hutchinson, who has his own story to tell about how an unexpected song saved his life in Vietnam.  Add to these stories songs of light from Peter Mayer, Dancing Light Duo, Megan McDonough,  Richard Mekdeci, Jan Garrett and J.D. Martin, and you get Inspiration with a capital I. It’s all on  The Traveler: Healing Journeys Through Music.  Press the button!
