Episode 5: Why I get Spring Fever in the Fall…

Episode 5: Why I get Spring Fever in the Fall…

If you listened to my last radio show for October, you might have heard my song Spring Fever in the Fall.  October is my favorite month, and usually the busiest!  This one started when the Relics played a really fun concert on the Plaza and surprised me in the middle of the show with a rendition of  the Beatles’ birthday song… The next day we spent in Jacksonville visiting my brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Pat, then going to a house concert at Denise Guerin’s sister’s where the Imposters played. That week I also played at a really sweet benefit for Peaceful Paths, an anti-bullying awareness-raising event hosted by Heart Phoenix and the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding. I was standing there talking to the co-director of Peaceful Paths and she said, “Remember when you came and played for me at AGH (hospital) after I had my baby? Here he is…”  and she pointed to a boy about 12 years old sitting there working at the booth!

The next weekend we played for Breast Cancer Awareness month’s Pink Pumpkin Pedal-Off bike ride; the band included Rob, David, and me with our special guest Marty Liquori on guitar. My friends Joanie and Greg Knisely rode up on their tandem bike–the only one I saw!

Patchwork’s gig on the Plaza October 18th was really fun, as we had 3 special guests–David Cook on dobro, Jacob Lawson on violin/fiddle, and Kelli Rucker on harmonica! We had a blast, and then were off bright and early the next morning to D.C., where we also visited my cousins in Bethesda and Unity of Fairfax, Virginia. The fall color in Maryland was beautiful. On Monday we took the train to New York. Shortly after our arrival, while walking around the Flatiron district, we came upon a new favorite place, Eataly. This place is amazing! Like a huge indoor Italian marketplace, with fresh produce, wine and cheese, deli, capuccino, and several restaurants–you could spend all day and night there! But we walked down to the Village to hear some music, and wound up in one of the most famous New York clubs, the Bitter End! What a treat. Heard a very unique and charismatic singer there–Alexis Hightower.

On Thursday Rob and I both gave presentations for the Creative Center’s week-long training institute on Creativity & Aging. The presentations went really well, we had a great time and hated to have to leave NYC that day–especially when our flight was delayed nearly 4 hours and we didn’t get home till almost 4:00 in the morning! After sleeping till about 11:00 I drove to Tampa, to give a presentation at the International Harp Therapy Program conference early Saturday morning. It was great to reconnect with so many harpists, especially the amazing Christina Tourin, who started the program nearly twenty years ago. I did a great interview with her, which you can hear on the show later in November.

November 1st I’ll be talking with author, lecturer and teacher Mary Rockwood Lane, who’s renown in the arts and healthcare world.  She’ll be talking about her new book and website, Healing With the Arts as well as demonstrating a guided imagery for our listeners.  Hope you can join us!

Cathy is amazing, and she is how I found you. I can not tell you how, I adore the polka dot flip flops with the polka dot gleasss. Truly amazing. My Mom inherited a set of wine gleasss with etched polka dots on them from a friend. They are from the 40 s and beautiful. Look forward to stopping by again.Mrs. C.
